In the South Pacific spanning an area as large as Western Europe, lies Tahiti and her 118 Islands. These islands are French Polynesia. In other words, they are governed by France. Looking full on to the map with Tahiti being right in the middle, Tahiti is 8 hours South of LAX (Los Angeles) and Chile, Peru, South America is 5 hours Southeast of Tahiti and New Zealand lies 5 hours southwest of Tahiti.

All flights from North America depart from LAX (Los Angeles) International airport daily. Air Tahiti Nui Airlines is the largest carrier with the most nonstop flights. You will fly into Tahiti Faa’a International Airport.

What…. Are…. You…. Waiting’….For.…. Let’s Go To The Islands Of Fiji !

320 Islands lie at the crossroads of the Pacific.  They was once live volcanic Islands so many have mountains. Its locale is popular as the perfect stop over to and from New Zealand and Australia. It is known world-wide by diving experts as one of the premier dive destinations.

There are Islands, then there are “ISLANDS”.  Some take your breath way, some are a little rough around the edges, but one thing is for sure, they are all beautiful in their own way.

Each Island offers its own unique personality but they all are surrounded by azure waters and Coral islets. Walking on the white sandy beaches, the water bubbles up around your ankles, you can hardly wait to dive in to see the many kinds of fish hiding in the coral. (Note) It is a very good idea to bring water shoes with you as the coral is very dangerous to walk on. In some places the blue water is so clear you can see down 100 feet +.

The rainforest hugs the shoreline with so many tropical flowers and birds and is waiting to be explored by you. The most visited islands offer sailing, surfing, fishing, bird watching, horse riding skiing and some have golf courses, soccer, rugby and cricket.

But first we have to get there. If you live in the U.S. you must fly from southern California,  Los Angeles International Airport. Fiji Airways is their national carrier and

Has departures overnight that lands early morning at Nandi International Airport, the gateway to all the Fijian Islands. Flights also arrive from Honolulu, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and Vancouver Canada. Fiji also has several domestic airports scattered throughout the islands, to carry passengers to the outer islands. Purchase a ‘Island Hopping Bula Combo Pass’ good from 5 to 21 days and goes to 12 of the  Islands in the chain 0f 20. The 12 Islands offers choice of accommodations between 31 Island Resorts. Some of the Islands you must be granted Special Permission by the elders to be able to visit their village.

Captain Cook offers 3 sailing vessels for cruising the Islands and are highly regarded. The Company of Island Spirit Charters has a fleet of boats for water transfers and half or full day charters. The cost ranges but is about 250 Fijian dollars per hour, for up to 8 people. Check the current exchange rate. One can rent motorbikes and scooters plus car rentals.

Visas are good up to 4 months and is granted immediately upon arrival. But there may be some counties that you may have to apply up front. Check with the High Fiji Commission.  Passports have to be valid at least 6 moths beyond your stay.

In the next travel news worthy Items we will visit some of the Fiji Islands and discuss a few of the most sought out resorts. AS they say in the business of entertaining for today, “That’s a Wrap”!
